Renewal Retreat at SCC
SCC Students Attend Evening of Workshops
Brittany Ledbetter
Issue date: 3/14/08 Section: Campus News
The Renewal Retreat, An Evening of Workshops, was held on Thursday, January 31st, 2008. Students were welcomed by Girls Like Us, Inc. CEO and Executive Director, Pamela Gray, as she asked, "What's your mission?" Members of the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program Advisory Board organized the retreat for students to take advantage of training on time management and organization, surrounding one's self with positive people and managing stress by working with others.
"When I went to the Renewal Retreat it was everything that the title, "Mission: Success!" said it would be. This retreat changed my life at that point in time," commented SCC student Brittany Ledbetter. "I was glad there were a lot of people from the EOF Program who came. I had a really great time there, because we had a chance to get into groups, and learn how to communicate with others."
While thirteen students attended the Renewal Retreat and provided positive feedback about their experience, several students were disappointed because they could not attend the event. For students who are also parents, childcare was not provided, and the retreat was held in the evening, rather than during the day; so several SCC students who would have liked to attend could not.
The members of the Program Advisory Board are considering offering workshops on topics such as "How to Invest Your Financial Aid Refund," "Budgeting Your Money," "The 411 on Registration" and "Finding Balance in Your Life as a College Student and Parent." These workshops will be held between the hours of 10:00am and 2:00pm in the Center for Student Success. Please call 351.2749 for more information regarding the upcoming workshops.
