The Student Nurse Organization (SNO) has been quite busy since the arrival of 2008. There are several projects that they have been working on. First, SNO helped to sign up donors for the most recent Red Cross blood drive on SCC's campus. With the help of SNO, the Red Cross was able to collect 33 pints of blood, which will help save 99 lives. Thank you to everyone who donated in February.

Secondly, members of SNO are pleased to announce that they are teaming up with Jim Menz and the Community Wellness grant to provide education in the community. Jim and SNO are hard at work preparing the educational outlines to provide smoking prevention education to local 5th graders. The plan is to deliver the education throughout April and early May.

Next, SNO is proud to be assisting in Salem County's Book Bank program. This program encourages people in Salem County to donate new or slightly used books for kids and low literacy adults. These books are gathered by the United Way of Salem County and dispersed to county agencies as needed. SNO has already picked up books at the United Way and delivered some to the Memorial Hospital of Salem County's Healthstart area. Other areas that SNO will be delivering to include Elmer Hospital and the Southern Jersey Family Medicine Center in Salem, NJ. The final part of this project is that SNO will be encouraging ALL SCC graduates to "Bring a Book to Graduation" in May. This will symbolize the SCC graduates "giving back" to the education of someone else in Salem County.

Lastly, the Student Nurse Organization is selling long sleeve t-shirts and sweatshirts to the Practical Nursing and Associate Degree of Nursing programs to signify their year in these nursing programs at SCC. The monies raised from this shirt sale will be used to establish a nursing scholarship to be presented at the Nursing Convocation in May.

Whew. The semester is only about half-way through and the members of SNO still have a lot of work to do. SNO is on the move and ready to take on any challenge that comes their way. SNO hopes all SCC students graduating in May will join in their "Bring a Book to Graduation" endeavor. Stay tuned for more details as the semester continues.
